What is Technical Support?
Technical support is an industry that provides trouble-shooting and customer service for tech items and services.
Let’s say you buy a smart TV. You try to set it up, but you’re having trouble getting it to connect to the internet. You call the support line and someone will help you try to get it set up. That right there is tech support!
Skills Needed For A Technical Support Role
For most technical support positions, you don’t need a degree or any sort of special certification.
You do, for the most part, need the basic skills and equipment that any work from home support job needs: empathy, be quick on your feet, a computer, a headset, and sometimes a phone line.
You may also need some knowledge about the products you will be providing support for.
How Much Does Tech Support Pay?
According to PayScale, the average Technical Support Specialist makes about $51,221 every year.
This of course includes tech support specialists that work from home and also one that work on-site.
As far as work from home positions go, I’ve seen hourly rates anywhere from $10-$20/hr.
