I’m one of those people that LOVE taking surveys.
Yeah you read that right – LOVE.
They’re easy to do, you can usally do them from your phone, and you don’t need any experience. It’s one of the best side hustles to do if you’re just starting out.
I’ve been taking surveys for money for YEARS (more than 10 years!), and I’ve tried quite a few survey panels.
One of the survey websites I keep going back to again and again is Prolific Survey (also known as Prolific Academic).
Let’s just get the basic stuff out of the way:
Prolific Survey (Prolific Academic) is completely legit. You CAN make money with them and they do pay out.
What is Prolific?
Prolific (also called Prolific Academic and Prolific Survey) is a UK-based company that connects researchers with participants that fit the researcher’s required demographics.
There are some for-profit companies that use Prolific, but for the most part, it’s used by researchers to help conduct research for their work or university studies.
How much can you make on Prolific?
How much you make depends on how many surveys you take!
But one of the things I love about Prolific is that they set a $6.50/hour minimum for surveys on their platform so all of the surveys you take WILL be worth your time.

How does Prolific Academic it work?
Prolific Survey is pretty easy to figure out, but it does work differently for Researchers and Participants.
For Researchers
If you’re a researcher you can get set up pretty quickly on Prolific.
First you must have your survey hosted on another platform (like Qualtrics, Survey Monkey, Gorilla, Typeform, etc).
Then you can add the link to Prolific, search the demographic screeners to narrow down your target audience.
Next, you can finish setting up the survey and collect the responses. You then have the ability to accept or reject responses right from Prolific.
For Participants
If you’re interested in taking surveys and making money on Prolific Survey, the process is actually pretty simple.
All you need to do is signup, confirm your email, and answer some screening questions! Then you can start taking surveys and making money.
How can you join Prolific?
If you’re interested in joining Prolific Academic, you can go to their website and create an account.
**You will need to verify your email and phone number before you can start taking surveys.
What are the requirements?
To be a participant on Prolific Survey you need to be from one of the following countries: AT, AU, BE, CA, CH, CL, CZ, DE, DK, EE, ES, FI, FR, GB, GR, HU, IE, IL, IS, IT, JP, KR, LU, LV, MX, NL, NO, NZ, PL, PT, SE, SI, or US.
(I could not find if there’s a certain age requirement).

Prolific Academic Payment Information
For the payment information regarding Prolific Survey I will only be talking about it from a persepective of someone in the US.
I don’t know if they have different payment methods / thresholds if you’re located in a different country (and I couldn’t find that information on their website).
Payment Threshold
The minimum you need to have to cash out on Prolific Survey is £5 (yes British Pounds).
Because Prolific is a UK-based company they pay out in British Pounds (which you can easily convert to USD in your PayPal account).

Prolific sends payments through PayPal.
How do payments work on Prolific Survey?
Once your account has reached the £5 minimum, you can request a cash out to your PayPal account.
PayPal payments are processed every Tuesday and Friday in the afternoons (in GMT time).
Once you have completed 4 cash outs to the same PayPal account, you will be eligible for instant cash outs which means you won’t have to wait for Tuesday or Friday to get your money (but you can only cash out once per day).
How to Make More Money With Prolific Academic
You can make more money with Prolific Survey by taking more surveys.

Complete Your Profile
One thing you can do to make sure you get more surveys (and make more money) is making sure your profile is complete.
If you go the “About You” section of your profile, make sure the bar is at 100% (yeah I need to fix that).
Every so often there will be more questions to answer on this page, so make sure you check it often!
Check Prolific Often
Prolific Survey does send emails when there’s a survey available, but sometimes they only send those emails if the surveys have been up for a while!
You usually won’t get an email every time there’s a new survey for you to do – so make sure you check the website often!
Use Prolific Assistant
If you want to make sure you catch surveys before they fill up – you NEED to be using Prolific Assistant!
Prolific Assistant is a browser app (for Chrome and Firefox) that will check Prolific Study for you every 60 seconds to check if there’s new surveys avilable!
It will then make a sound and give you a notification that there’s a new survey available!

How much have I made with Prolific?
As you can see from the screenshot above, I’ve made £511.92 from Prolific academic.
According to the Google Currency Converter this is about $678 in USD.
I’d say this is pretty damn good. I’ve only used Prolific for about a year (off and on). So this is about $50+ a month. I’ll take it!
