You might’ve heard that you can make some pretty good money with blogging, but the idea of blogging doesn’t really work for you.
So you want to know an alternative to blogging that offers the same type of results.
Well, I have a surprise for you. There are some alternatives to blogging that work for different people and we’re going to cover those but first I think it’s important to understand WHAT blogging actually does for people.

What Is Blogging?
When I talk about blogging I don’t mean personal blogging where you write whatever you want and just hope people come to like your photos.
What I talk about blogging I’m really talking about content marketing.
The idea that you use your blog posts to attract people to your site to lead them to an offer.
The idea that your blog posts are meant to help boost trust with your audience and authority.
Blogging is the marketing department for your business. You aren’t blogging for fun. You’re blogging for results.
Typically, results mean money.
So that’s what we’re talking about here. What are some alternatives to blogging that will make you money.
But just to make sure you understand what blogging is, in essence, it’s a way to show people your value and then you convert that into money.
Think about the Pocket Business Framework:
- Get them to notice you
- Get them to pay attention to you
- Get them to trust you
- Convert that trust into money
You can see how blogging helps with all of those things.
So what can you do instead of blogging that will achieve the same affect?
Alternative to Blogging: 3 That You Should Consider
I guess I should say that if you don’t want to do blogging because you think it’s hard then I’m not sure you’re going to like these, but let’s give this a shot anyways.
YouTube
Blogging but in video form!
Honestly, if someone had to choose between blogging or YouTube, I’d say YouTube most of the time because it’s easier to build a connection with your audience.
It doesn’t mean it’s easier to grow an audience but you’ll find people drawn to you more when they can actually see and hear you.
Plus, you know there is already a large audience (billions) on YouTube so it comes down to can you get YouTube to show you to other people?
If you can then you’re on to something amazing.
Podcasting
Blogging but in audio form!
I shouldn’t have to explain podcasting. The key with podcasting is that you have to consistently promote your podcast over and over and over again and you gotta get good at entertaining.
You’re asking people to sit down and actually listen to you, usually for an extended period of time, and that dives into their time.
So you have to make it worth their while.
Newsletters
Substack has made this a legitimate form of making money.
Paid newsletters are gaining in popularity because you don’t have to worry about all of the technical aspects of blogging.
You just have to create a great newsletter that people want to read.
It’s very similar to podcasting in the sense that you’re going to have to work your ass off and promote it, but once things take off, you have a natural network effect of people forwarding your emails to others.
You Don’t Have to Blog
Here’s the thing, you don’t have to blog to create a successful online business. The Pocket Business Framework that I mention above doesn’t address specific tactics because specific tactics aren’t needed.
You just have to make sure that your business follows each of the steps if you want any chance of succeeding.
However, if you do want to see if blogging is for you then make sure to check out the Blogging Handbook and our post on how to make money blogging.
