It’s hard to run a successful site if it isn’t user-friendly.
What does that mean? It means if something is hard to use then you’ll lose money.
Of course, when you run your own site you can easily be blinded from its deficiencies.
Some sites use terrible fonts and colors, have too many pop-ups, and in general are a pain to read. When you encounter sites like this then odds are you don’t even bother trying to read them. You simply leave.
No business owner wants that to happen so they pay other people to test their website for them and provide feedback.
And guess what?
You can be one of those people that get paid to test their websites for them.
How cool is that? You simply surf the web, click around on a site, take some notes, and you’re done.
To do this job you simply need to be somewhat Internet savvy and speak fluent English.
What does Internet savvy mean? It means you understand the basics of what makes a good website good. If links (you know what links are, right?) are hard to find or you don’t know what is clickable then you should be able to communicate that.
The tests that you take going over these websites usually take anywhere from 5 minutes to 25 minutes.
Unlike taking online surveys though not everybody will qualify for testing websites. Most of these sites make you apply and if you don’t get accepted then you don’t get to sit on your butt to get paid for clicking around on websites.
9 Sites That Will Pay You to Test Websites
1. UserTesting
This is the big Daddy of them all. You can earn anywhere from $10-$15 for 20 minutes of work. That isn’t bad at all!
To become a test you just need to submit your email address and apply. Before you get any real assignments you must take a sample test.
One of the great things is that this site is open to both US and International residents. You just need to make sure you have a PayPal account.
2. Enroll
Enroll is great because it is done by the awesome Zurb team. It’s a design and development agency that does great work so it’s a great site to work with.
Another great thing about Enroll is that you can take the tests on almost any device – phone, tablet, and desktop. You pick your preference.
Similar to UserTesting you just need to make sure you have a PayPal account if you want to get paid.
Jobs vary in both payment and time. Shorter tests pay less which makes perfect sense. If a test only takes a minute you shouldn’t get paid $10 although that this the dream.
3. TestingTime
Want to make some Euros? Then TestingTime is for you, but the process for taking tests is a lot different.
Each study is conducted via Skype and usually takes between 30 and 90 minutes of time so if you can’t commit that much time then you shouldn’t bother. Once you’re done with the study you can expect to get paid in 5-10 days via PayPal.
If you have a computer that can’t run Skype then you are out of luck here.
4. TryMyUI
Make $10 in 15 minutes. That’s not too shabby.
However (there is always a however), you need to pass the qualification test. The qualification test is simply a sample test that proves that you understand the process and different requirements.
Pass that and you are golden. Once you qualify you are sent different test opportunities in your email and payments are made bi-weekly via Paypal.
5. UserFeel
Get paid $10 for each test. I feel like a broken record here, but all you need to do is apply, take a sample test, and pass it. Once you sample test has been approved you will start to receive your assignments in your email.
The good thing about this service is that payments are made via PayPal at the end of each week.
6. UserLytics
If you’re tired of looking at just websites then Userlytics offers a bit of variety for you.
You can provide feedback on applications, prototypes, and concepts along with websites. Once you’ve completed your assignment you’ll be paid $10 via PayPal.
7. UserZoom
UserZoom’s test take around the same amount of time as everyone else: 10 to 20 minutes. Payments are made a little bit later than most of the other players in this industry as you should expect payment to arrive 10 to 14 business days after you’ve completed a study.
8. Validately
Validately offers test in different ways. The simple 5-minute tests will pay you $5, but they also offer live tests.
Live tests are where you speak via phone and share a screen with a moderator. These pay a minimum of $25 for 30 minutes of your time.
When do you get paid? 5 business days after the test is completed.
9. What Users Do
I don’t know about you, but I’m getting a little tired of saying the same thing over and over again so I’ll just say that you get paid 8 British Pounds for a 20-minute test. If you work in dollars you’ll have to do the exchange rate math on that.
They also offer some of the slowest payments compared to other sites. They pay you on the 25th day of each month.
Catch ‘Em All!
So you have 9 sites to work with. You might be trying to calculate how much money you can make per hour if you work with all 9 sites, but something you have to keep in mind is that you and I aren’t the only two people that know about these sites.
Thousands of others are taking advantage of these sites as well and because there are fewer customers than testers you shouldn’t expect to have your inbox flooded with opportunities.
